Actuation

Multi-degree-of-freedom high-precision high-load-capacity actuators for positioning, shaking, and active vibration cancellation. Our technology solutions are capable of a large range of frequency responses, from <0.01Hz to >5kHz over a range of forces from mN to kN. Use of proprietary innovative flexures allows accuracies as high as 10nm with complete repeatability and no stick-slip.

Actuation principles

Piezoelectric, electromagnetic, fluidic and thermal expansion physical principles are employed to achieve actuation frequencies from several kHz down to creep motions at speeds in the order of few nm/s. Our choice of physics allows us to develop mission-specific self-locking or back-drivable/ master-slave redundant configurations.

Actuator topologies

We design serial and parallel actuator topologies to achieve mission specific characteristics in terms of stiffness, accuracy and load capacity.

Actuated systems/ Automata

We synthesise our actuated modules in serial, parallel and hybrid configurations to achieve optimal envelopes for motion and force. We have developed configurations featuring both explicit forward and inverse kinematics, allowing for robust, precise and error-tolerant control.
